And you thought your gas was expensive

And you thought your gas was expensive.
Gas prices are set to rise on Saturday night. The new price, NIS 7.62 per liter of 95 octane gas, will be the highest in Israel's history. The new price, for gas at self-service pumps, will be 3.11% higher than current prices, and is due to increased oil prices around the world, the Infrastructure Ministry said. The price at full-serve pumps for 95 octane gas will be NIS 7.75.
Be grateful for what you have. $4 gallons of gas are a pipe dream here.

You must have huge taxes. In Canada we're around $1.34/l (~ NIS 4.8) and the gubmnt takes a big chunk that includes tax on tax.

(Pump service in Canada is almost non-existent.)

By my math, that's about US$9.50 per gallon... Yikes!
Are any cars running on natural gas, and what do you think will happen once the new gas fields are brought online?

I probably should have mentioned that the Shekel is one of the strongest currencies around right now, and is trading at about NIS 3.4 to a US dollar (as compared with NIS 4 about a year or so ago). People like yours truly who get paid mostly in dollars are getting creamed.

First of all, lucky for you, you measure your driving distance in centimeters rather than light years. I know... I've been there! :) Second of all, if you drill baby drill and generate electricity with the natural gas, you can plug the new electric cars in and, because of your centimeter-based ranges, you'll be good to go... Now I'd like to see a chart comparing the cost per centimeter for electricity produced with your new gas fields vs. refined gasoline... You may end up looking back at this year's gas prices with nostalgia...
